Overview

Pain is the most predominantly associated symptom with patients visit to the dental office. The pain may arise due to either an endodontic cause or a periodontic cause, but the endodontic pain type variant is the most commonly encountered by dentists in their dental offices. Even though endodontic pain is more common, there arises a dilemma in diagnosing and planning the treatment for the patient in day-to-day practice. This makes the proper diagnosis and adequate management of endodontic pain an important part of any dental practice.

In this video, Dr. Gopi Krishna introduces the topic with an anecdote and gives the audience a take-home message of treating the patient and not just the tooth. He further talks about preoperative pain considerations, local anesthetic techniques for painless surgery, and pain related to operative protocols. He discusses in detail different anesthetic techniques and the best anesthesia of choice in a clinical setup.

Dr. Gopi Krishna is a clinician and Academician of National Acclaim, handles all the root canal cases and has experience of over 25 years in the clinical setup. He is the Founder - Director of the Root Canal Foundation – an exclusive endodontic practice cum training centre based at Chennai, India. He is the Editor of six textbooks including Grossman’s Endodontic Practice and Sturdevant’s Art and Science of Operative Dentistry – South Asian Edition that are read by more than 30,000 students annually. He is currently serving as the Editor in Chief of Endodontology Journal and as the Associate Editor of European Endodontic Journal. He is also the General Secretary and Clinical Examiner for the Indian Board of Endodontics, the only certifying board for the specialty of endodontics in India.
