Chandigarh: Govt to upgrade ESI Hospital to 300 beds

Chandigarh: The UT Administration has announced its plan to increase the bed capacity of ESI Hospital at Ram Darbar from 70 to 300 beds to meet the increasing demand of the patients.

A meeting was held under the chairmanship of UT Advisor Dharam Pal here on Wednesday for a comprehensive review of the Labour Department, Building and other Construction Workers Welfare Board, Chandigarh Labour Welfare Board, and Chandigarh Social Security Board for Unorganized Workers, Employment Exchange, and Director Health Services, Chandigarh Administration.

Several other decisions were also taken at the meeting, including the increase in bed capacity of the hospital, which will provide relief to the patients in the future. Now, a lack of beds will no longer prevent patients from receiving hospitalization at the ESI hospital.

As per The Tribune reports, the meeting focused on the functioning of the departments as well as the progress reports of various welfare schemes for workers engaged in organized and unorganized sectors.

In addition to reviewing ESIC's facilities for the general public and the linkage to the National Career Service's portal for unemployed persons to find employment, a discussion was also held on the national career service portal.

Mr. Vinay Pratap Singh, Labour Commissioner, Mr. Vinod P Kavle, Secretary (Labour), Mr. A. K. Sharma, Regional Director, ESIC, and Mr. Nitish Singla, Joint Secretary (Labour) were also present during the meeting.

Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported that Union Minister of Health & Family Welfare, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, had visited PGIMER Satellite Centre, Sangrur, to review its execution and informed that the Satellite Centre will be fully functional by January 2023.

Expressing satisfaction at the pace of the execution of the Project, the Minister stated, "With the pace at which the work is being executed, including procurement of medical devices and equipment, the Satellite Centre will be fully functional by January 2023 and will provide a huge relief not only for the local population but for those far and wide."
